It is 23 degrees Fahrenheit outside, which makes this the warmest day in the past week. It is also snowing incredibly heavily, which is actually the reason for the rise in temperature. It's incredibly pretty in certain areas of the city today and incredibly slushy and gross in others, which is the nature of snow as well.

I am currently wearing:
-woolen socks
-waterproofed hiking boots
-thick red nylon leggings, footless
-even thicker black knitted leggings, footless
-an adorable cotton skirt of two layers
-a sleeveless shirt
-a thin purple sweater

Last night I watched MULHOLLAND DR at Doc Films, which was incredibly strange. I kind of expected that, but honestly, it was really beyond my expectations of weirdness. I'm fairly convinced that a great deal of the film was a dream sequence, but beyond that I can only take away the fact that Naomi Watts is an excellent actress. The whole film could be more comprehensible if maybe two scenes were added explaining what the hell was going on, but there was some really incredible moments of tension and suspense, and I think that it was worth five bucks for the cultural experience.

Ohhh man, had you ever seen a David Lynch film before?

Did you know that MULHOLLAND DR was meant to be a pilot for an ongoing show? When the show never got picked up, Lynch got the cast back together to shoot new scenes and completely change the direction of the story. I'm guessing right around the lesbian sex.

What's funny is that the DVD comes with "ten clues to understanding what the hell the film's about." Like, "Pay close attention to the phone by the lamp," stuff like that. The gag is that some if not most of the clues are total BS.

I particularly recommend THE STRAIGHT STORY, Lynch's G-rated Disney film. No, really! Also, the show TWIN PEAKS.

I think this is the first Lynch film I've seen, but it might well not be. I only recently (read: last five years or so) started paying much attention to the names of directors.

That was about where I'd put the seam, too, but DAMN, they were slashy in the lead-up. I was getting all ready in the theater to be offended at the lack of lesbian sex, and then they gave me what I was waiting for.

As my viewing buddy mentioned at the time- "I've watched mindfuck anime that made more sense than this." In Japanese, without subtitles, I would presume.

Thing is, I'm not sure if I'm intrigued enough to watch it again and try and figure it out better, or if I'm bewildered enough to just say, "Fuck it." and go about my merry way.

But, I have been meaning to check out TWIN PEAKS for a while now (Henry Jenkins made me do it), so I I think that I'll give that a try in my copious free time (ha. ha. ha.) and see what I can make of it.
