Yesterday we went to see 'Geschichte aus den Wiener Wald,' which was, like much of Austrian theater, curiously stilted to me. I sometimes wonder if America is the only country/tradition that still embraces the more naturalistic and simple presentation of plays- much of the stuff I've seen here has been ruthlessly modern presentations of very old texts. Apparently, 'Geschicte' is one of those plays that everyone has seen several times over, and that the director has to be creative with in order to anyone's attention. I can't help but thinking that I would perhaps have enjoyed something clearly set in the same time period as the original story was set. But whatever.

I've had a fiercely inactive day. I have no motivation to work, because next Tuesday I'm going to Berlin and I have no real reason to worry about homework until I get back.

My roomie finally found her lost key, which means I can stop propping the door open when I go out- a practice that actually made me a bit anxious, as I live right across from the elevators, and everyone can see that it's being left open.

At the immediately moment, I'm wondering how women with any kind of long finger nails manage to have a high typing speed. I barely have nails at all, and they clearly don't go past the end of my fingertips, but I can feel them hit the keys at every stroke.

In other news, the boy who has been using my German keyboard for two months now is still holding onto it, though I asked rather tactfully to have it back. His computer is useless without it, but honestly, I would have thought that, just perhaps, when he realized that he was making my life inconvenient by withholding the item that I purchased for the express purpose of having it *on hand* when I want it, and so that I would not have to ask someone else for it, he might go out and buy one of his own. It was only 12 Euros!

I was amused to see there was a play called wiener world, but I see I misread your entry.

Tell that brat boy to give it back. Make up a reason you need it.

Well, he's basically said that he needs it to work, and that I can get it back whenever I need it just by asking. Which is a lie, because he's never there. But his stupid broken puter (broken months ago!) is finally getting repaired.... Meh.

"wiener Wald' means 'Viennese woods'. I'm not quite sure how 'wiener' in English got to mean sausage, but it causes me no end of amusement.
