I really, really do not need to spend $250 human dollars on an ortholinear keyboard to play with. It's not a good idea. I don't need to do that.

Date: 2020-11-07 05:03 pm (UTC)I am speaking to you as someone who paid $200 for a used mechanical keyboard -- because the MSRP on a new model was approximately $500, which was not a price I was willing to pay. It is a Maltron single-handed keyboard, so it commands that price mostly because the number of people who can only type with one hand is an extremely niche market. I haven't quite mastered the layout yet but I am working on it.
So I have to say that $250 new doesn't sound all that outrageous. :)

I have largely been drooling over a kit by Drop to build your own oklb Preonic, a two handed ortholinear where you supply some of your own components - which is why I keep talking myself out of it-for a first experiment with building a keyboard, it seems a bit of on investment. But,so Shiney!
