Random life updates, some reading

The Job: This week at work, a second co-worker on our team announced that she's leaving to go to a new place. Which is great, she is really happy about the move, but it does mean that we are legitimately down two people on a team where everyone is really in fact needed for the amount of work. So, former co-worker #1 has already left and the week was spent in literally everyone covering work for her on top of our own. I didn't get much done, other than the stuff that dropped in my lap, and it looks like more is going to be happening.
Reading: I have finished A Conspiracy of Truths! Author Alexandra Rowland's first work was GREAT - if you love an unreliable narrator with an agenda and a fun point of view, this is a fantastic book for that. I'd put in the company of The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner in terms of delightfully twisty characters telling you a story that they want you to hear that's not precisely lying, but not actually the whole truth, either. Queer friendly world with lots of women in power (and morally complex about it, too!) and a quick read, despite how long my slow ass took about getting there.
Knitting: I have promised my father a sweater! which is going to take a little work finding a pattern that he will entirely like and that I can do, but I have some ideas already about how to make it all work. His taste are kind of "chic Mr. Rogers". In the meanwhile, I am working on some socks, I have a cardigan for myself in the queue, and I am now really thinking about some fingerless gloves/ handwarmers bc it seems like the weather is a misery and touch screens are a part of my life.

Date: 2019-01-20 12:51 am (UTC)I actually do think it is mostly coincidence - both people had been there for several years and mentioned that they were solicited by outside recruiters. It's not an uncommon thing for folks in my field to have to trade jobs around to advance, and while there's some bullshit up the chain of command from us, our direct boss and skip level boss are both pretty great and respect the work that we're doing.

Are your socks up on Ravelry yet, or do you just add things once they're done? I should cast on some socks because my machine made ones seem to vanish without a trace. Also, it'd be nice to have more hand-knitted socks.
