I've just finished reading Y: the Last Man. I had picked up all 60 issues a while back, but I had only gotten to 50 before I needed to go to Graz- it's not the kind of story that I can take a whole damned lot of at once.

But, I just finished it. And it was beautiful and sad and cracked. It was lovely writing. I don't really know what more I can say about that, but be happy that it exists. I'm going to read it more later, I think.... But for right now I'm just going to let it sort of settle.

Graz itself was wonderful and beautiful and I would highly recommend going there for a little bit at least.

I got back to discover my roomie's side of the room in shambles, because she'd made a mess while I was gone, and I'm not supposed to be mad about it, but I kind of am. I never have any idea what is going on with her, and I am honestly concerned that she's having some stupid personal problems that I, as poor stupid stranger, am going to get caught up in.

Why do Austrians not know about the Dr. Seuss? Cat and the Hat, man!

Yeah, I wasn't surprised we never learned more about 355, but I was okay with that. I don't think any name they could have picked for her would have seemed quite right, and this way she'll always be 355.

There were a few things in the last issue that just felt a little off to me, or seemed odd for no particular reason. Things like why it's now the "Culper Sphere." Why change the name? If there was a good reason, it would be worth telling us why, and if there wasn't a good reason, then why do it? Little things like that.

However, I think the thing I was waiting for them to explain that really felt like it was missing when the series ended is where the rats came from. They made a point of saying that certain animals were extinct, and then all of a sudden there are rats again. It seemed like they were setting up for something with that, but that something never came.

I am glad that they ended the series, even though I would have enjoyed reading more. A story will a planned beginning, middle, and end is much preferable to one that they keep beating stories out of until the quality fades and people abandon it.
