Things that happened today, which bear little to no relation to each other:
-I pulled out the trial contact lenses I got from my optometrist- I'd honestly forgotten about them, but I was clearly a smarty pants and got my eye care together before leaving the US, and I have all the stuff I need to wear contacts. It's kind of startling to see myself without glasses again, I like it a lot. However, it did make my eyes tired, because prescription is not quite right.
-I wrote a two page essay comparing the portrayal of violence in Kark Kraus's play die letzten Tage der Menschheit (The last days of mankind) and Bertha von Suttner's pacifist novel Die Waffen Nieder! (Lay down your arms!). Both have an interesting tendency to try to shock the audience/reader with the immediacy of violence by removing any character's ideas or framing narrative, and just throwing it in your face to deal with all by yourself. It's a highly functional trick. I was much more careful with the writing of this essay than I was the first one.
-Two separate people came up to me in the abandoned halls of the university today to ask if I knew if classes we canceled- while yesterday was a national holiday for Pentecost (despite the established proof via random TV interviews that almost no Austrians can tell you what Pentecost is), the University had another day's vacation. These poor fools came into class anyways. The school is not good about giving notice on that.
I'm just kind of sleepy in general. I don't really know why. I'm trying to hit the hay early with a nice pot of herbal tea, and some goofing off.
