Got up at Stupid O'Clock in the morning to get myself to a bus Bratislava Airport to fly to London Stanstead. Once I got on the bus, my normal level of anxiety was pretty much gone- without anyone to feel stressed out with, I just sort of got there and took care of business. I also was completely under the baggage weight limit, so go me!
Emma met me at London Victoria, slightly stressed about turning in her paper before the deadline (she'd tried to drop it off *before* meeting me, only to find that the professor had already gone to a completely different building, and that she would have to go back to school to drop it off.) But, we got that done, and did a little wandering around London. I met some of her friends from school, all of whom seemed to be in the process of flying various places and packing up. We all got set to wander around together, which was fun, and then we cam back to the set of rooms and watched the truly hilarious *Blades of Glory*. It was a great moment in really bad comedy.
Dec 15th Yesterday
Still slightly bewildered by a nation where *everyone speaks ENGLISH*, I slept late, and Emma took me to a rather nice and nonposh street market called Borough Market. It was quite enoyable, and I was highly amused by the copious amounts of free samples and good natured people. We did some wandering in the city, over Tower Bridge (the skyline is lovely, and we saw the Tower and Buckingham Palace, as well as St. James Park, but did not go in.) We stopped off at a pub Emma had found before that seemed, from its Knights Templar decorations, as if it should have been monumentally expensive, but in fact had a lovely deal on burgers and chips that made me a happy Beanie.
The Jewel in the Crown however was our theater attempts. Emma and her friends are living in Soho, and have discovered that many theaters will offer half price discounts to students beginning shortly before the show, and that this is a great way to see things. Given that it was a Saturday night, our chances were not so great, but I had wanted to try for Billy Elliot: The Musical, and Wicked. Wicked was sold out before we even got to the theatres, and Billy Elliot, though right next door, was not doing student consignment tickets, so the cheapest tickets were 50 pounds each. Not good!
Anyway, it was still early, so we headed back towards the main theater district to see what the other places were offering. And we stopped by Avenue Q only to find that they were able to offer us BOX SEATS at 25 pounds each.
So, who has two thumbs and saw Avenue Q last night from boxed seats, getting teased directly for small change by the actor playing Gary Coleman?
O_O
b d This girl.
This was a Really Great Moment, and will enjoy it's own full post later.
Dec 16th Today
Today, we did a day trip to Canterbury, where we saw their lovely little Christmas Market and the Cathedral. Emma let me use her camera, so I have as many pictures as I could ever want, and the gift shop there enjoyed by custom. Details will not be forthcoming.
In other news: I am considering having mini business cards printed by Moo.com, which is lovely and Emma has some made up for herself.
