Let's see. What has the Beanie done today?

Well, I did a lot of my Christmas shopping, including some *hoo-boy* more expensive than I'd meant stocking stuffers. Nothing insane, just the nice things that I have so very much enjoyed here in Austria are not really things that conform well to bulk-buying. Aside from bread, which would spoil by the time I got back to the US.

In other news... I've found one of the two elusive books that I've needed for my Weimar Literature class, and it's just as large and impressive as a number of the others- I'm essentially going to be bringing gifts and text books with me on Friday when I head out to England, and stuff clothes around the edges. I'm currently doing my laundry for just this reason: with careful selection, I can maximize my useful laundry and minimize the sheer bulk I need to bring. A good thing, when working with Ryanair. (I have commanded the parents to think light thoughts with regards to my gifts this year, but I don't know how that will work out.)

I'm kind of hoping for some new nose-jewelry. While I intended to buy something more while I was here, I ended up forgetting about it entirely.

The Zoo yesterday really was something. They had tigers, jaguars, and cheetahs, all of which were chowing down when we got to see them. There was also a bunch of sealions, which we saw eating and listened to a little talk about them and what they are like. (Or, at least, I did, while Kate oohed over the animals since she couldn't speak German, and Colleen looked at me funny when I did loose translations.

Me:(To Kate) Ok, now he's talking about their whiskers.
Colleen: What?? You don't know the word for whiskers. Are you telling me you know the word for whiskers?
Me: No, but he's talking about their noses and making comparisons to cats, so I figured that what's going on. Listen for yourself, you speak German.
Coleen: Oh. I wasn't really listening.)

I ran into this really cute little Indian man today- I walk by his shop just about every day since it's right next to my street and he's usually got something on display on the street. He was very cute, and made me a little cup of tea, and was astonished that I came from the USA and spoke a mixed of German and English to me. It was cute.

I also ran into one of the main differences between European banks and American ones: all the tiny branches of European banks still have a full supply of money in various currencies to change. Because you need to be able to do that, if you're going to call yourself a bank. (TAKE NOTE, WELLESLEY BANK. THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE. Gah, long story there about my mom trying to deposit a check for my sister which had been written in pounds, only to get told repeatedly by stupidly ill-trained bank employees that they didn't deal with foreign currency. YES, you do, because otherwise you're forcing your clients to use a different bank, and you're probably required to be law.)

is not *Haare*. You're the always complaining about how crappy internet translations are- Haare is "hair(s)", not specifically whiskers like on a cat.
