I've done very little today, but I have reaped the fruit of some of my labors. For one thing, I'm going to be making E350 translating a document into English! I have a marketable skill, and life is good. I do have to get this sucker done by this Thursday, though, and it's a little time consuming. However, manageable.

In other news, I have not written a word for NaNoWriMo, and am now afraid of attempting to start. I don't really have an idea for how to start, and I kind of wish that I could just jump in, but I don't know what on earth I would do.

Anyhoo, after Karel left yesterday I went home and translated for a while, then headed out to try and buy some cheap movies. Here, I find myself starving for films, and renting them is only marginally cheaper than buying them at a discount from a variety of little stores. When one takes into account the possible cost of late fees, and the fact that I will be able to watch these films again in the future, I find myself perfectly in the right.

After that, I headed to Naschmarkt, and ended up catching the tail-end of the fleamarket. Watching people pack up was almost as interesting as being there for a purpose. I was semi-looking for something to buy, but mostly only concerned with seeing how things looked. And I was itching to get out into the world for a bit.

The way I figure out the pricing on the translation was recommended to me by another American who has done some non-official translating for people. First you set a per hour rate of about E10, and then just translate the first page of the document to figure out how long it will take. From there, you can figure out the price per page, and the price for the whole document. It's rather nice, actually. And when faced with a sum total of what I thought would have been ridiculously high, the Monseterium guy did not even blink- he in fact rounded up to slightly higher than I had told him.

So, that's what I will be doing this week, and honestly, it's not a bad job. I will make enough on this job to more than pay for my rent this month, and I'm feeling pretty good about it. I'm almost wondering if I could find more people looking for translation-work. I cannot possibly be as expensive as a professional, and I imagine that there is a fairly high demand for this kind of thing.
