I only wish freezers were the same size as the refrigerator space. I don't tend to cook and freeze food but like you I tend to buy multiples when they're on sale. I rely on frozen foods a lot because with 2 people it's much easier to just defrost a few bits of something. Fresh food is either too much or not enough in the sense of being able to buy a variety of, say, vegetables at one time. I don't like food waste either and I want to be sure we can eat everything before it spoils.
