I miss Tumblr

Not the current version of tumblr, which I can go and visit, which is like the children's exhibits at an art museum, with half the important but controversial people left out of the conversation and all the bits covered up by papal fig leaves

I miss the weirdness and the art and the random porn that also commented on character and stumbling into a three-month-long fight in a fandom I legit have never heard of that turned into a gif dance off and a watercolor porn fest at the same time.

It was weird, and now it’s gone, and I love dreamwidth, don’t get me wrong, it’s much much better at having conversations and community and I think it’s better at keeping people from being harassed, and maybe I’ll get into Pillowfort if enough people I like show up there, but. Man.

I miss tumblr.

I completely understand, even if I was never into tumblr myself. However, I have had sites I loved shut down, and it honestly hurts. :/

Yes: the random stuff that trickled through your dash even though you never actually subscribed to that. I was just thinking today that I miss, particularly, all of the links to articles on politics or media or culture, things I would never necessarily seek out whole blogs on or even comms on that topic, but that I enjoyed sprinkled in through the madness. The whimsical is gone, and I miss that. It's all very well to be all serious and lengthywordy here on DW, but I miss a good shitpost, the games of one-up, the collectively-written sentence-at-a-time fics, the odd image that is just kinda cool even though that's not what anyone's blog was about. *sigh*

Dreamwidth is more like a coffeehouse than a graffiti wall. I can see why you miss Tumblr. I am sad that it got ruined, even though it was never my cuppa tea.
