Fannishly, I think Venom is the fandom I'm in that's exploding - I loved the comics as a kid, but I tend to fall in and out of comics and follow a character or a particular writer more than I follow a title. So I got to read about ten years of back comics about Venom in the last few months before the movie came out. The movie... did not *look* like it was going to be a success? But I've kind of delighted with how it turned out and how a fandom has basically just blossomed so fast. So that's what I'm reading now, but I love sci fi in general and I'm also currently watching Star Trek TOS with a friend bc I had never seen it before.

What else...? I once ran into Neil Gaiman at a coffee shop and didn't recognize him because I was too distracted at the looking at baby in the sling on his chest, completely concealed except for one tiny clawed hand sticking out like a velociraptor from an egg.

Trek TOS is so weird. I grew up on Next Gen and have struggled to watch TOS. I like what they were trying to do and am SUPER PROUD of all the strides they made for racial and sexual equality but it's so damn hard to watch. Awkward. Acting. Stilted. Dialogue. And all the 60s era things that are painful to watch now, like the womens' costumes. Just. *buries head*

Well that was a bad rec. Are you liking it? I hope you're liking it. There are parts I really like but it's a super small doses show for me.

Yup - I was on LJ before then, technically still am. But eventually I started seeing so many people posting on AO3 linking to their tumblr that I made an account and just sort of let DW fall fallow.

*nods* I was on tumblr first, then got an LJ a couple of years ago and then DW... though I haven't been using DW that intensely until the tumblr purge.

I kind of have to be on LJ for some things I do in fandom, but I don't trust it anymore.

Haha, Dreamwidth doesn't have an algorithm, it has blind dates! You're welcome to follow - I do blog mostly about what I'm reading and podcasts, but I do have occasionally forays into knitting and yarn work so I definitely think we have some stuff in common.

Ha, that would have been too clever for me when I thought it up back in high school.

It was based off a little sketch I had made where a kite (like the kind Charlie Brown would fly into an unfriendly tree) and the little ribbons in bows on the tail morphing into angel fish - I thought they looked kind of like a bow in profile.

I do love a bird of prey tho, so if you're enjoying the visual of a smug kite with dinner in its talons, I won't contradict you!

Ah, thanks for sharing the actual backstory! It's interesting that you've kept it since high school; that would be a lot of continuity with my high school self for me.

I like that it can be read multiple ways.
