You would not necessarily need a yard, as long as you had the time and energy to be a conscientious dog-owner. We do not have a yard, and yet we have a beautiful, beautiful dog. Granted, there are four of us, and we absolutely must walk him at least twice a day, every day for at least twenty minutes each time. But if you had the energy and dedication and time to walk your dog 2-3 times daily, you could live in the city, sans yard, and have a dog.
