So, I'm on my way home, in about 40 minutes or so. Right now, I would be eating breakfast only I have no food. Hopefully something will be open at either the train station or at the airport for me to eat.

Oh, and Spain won the Euro Football championship. This lead to a lot of happiness and joy late into the night and early morning, in which I could not partake for reasons of a) not being a Spaniard, and b) not giving a damn.

However, if I thought the Austria-Germany game was tense, oh, sweet cheese, how much worse was the German-Spain demonstrations yesterday. Roving bands of people wearing German colors would burst into song whenever they saw people wearing the Spanish flag. There were clear divisions.

I am really happy that I have not read Harry Potter. Dropping out of that massive societal brouhaha gave me practice for dropping out of this one.

I am underslept.

Now that just sounds misanthropic. Aside from the great tragedy of missing the JOY that much of society experienced with Harry Potter, there is really nothing wrong with joining in a teeming throng of mass human experience. Well, on occasion. It's kind of fun.

You really didn't read and HP?

I read through book 4, and it was really depressing overall. The writing was really only okay, and I found that I just wasn't involved enough in the characters to overcome the tone: It just wasn't fun for me anymore.

I did buy book 5, but I couldn't get into it. I gave up on it, thinking that I would pick it up again later, but then I got spoiled for it and... I dunno, just no joy for it.

Also, at five thirty in the morning, I often wish for the deaths of the entire planet if it will let me get back to sleep. The people had earned my wrath by standing outside my university during finals screaming for their favorite team. It's enough to make me go a little batty on them.

Oh, well, that's a different story, then. Interfering with sleep is justification enough for wishing to destroy the happiness and lives of others.

I guess if you weren't invested in the characters, it would stop being fun. But I thought that JK did that better than she did anything else. The writing, admittedly, was often sub-par and predictable, but the relationships and the characters and the beautiful vivid mental playground of a world made it worth coming back to.

The world I really liked, actually, and I really only kept up as long as I did to keep up with fanfic. I wish I could have cared more about the characters, but the POV seemed to limit how much detail I could get on the other characters- I would have loved to see more about the other people in the cast, but they were always so Harry-centric that I couldn't enjoy the books past that. I didn't dislike Harry, but I never found him that interesting himself.
