Kind of strange I finally watched the macbook Air ads after reading this article on innovation. Clicky

One of the first things I noticed about glowing loveliness of the macbook Air was that it didn't have a CD drive in the pictures. I watched the specs section on the apple website. Lo and behold- I was not wrong. In fact, most of their discussion was based on how incredibly easy it was to get around the need for a cd drive by using wireless and piggybacking off other computers.

Really? Apple computers are not low end things, but I generally expect that a new kind of computer selling at a higher price will have more than just prestige value. My laptop serves as my desktop computer- I don't pretend that it's particularly easy to tote the sucker around, but the point is, it does what I need it to, and it easy enough to bring with me when I need to. The macbook appears to be a hunk of pretty (useless) computer parts stuck together in a very tight little order. Why on earth would anyone buy a computer that does not have the basics like a cd drive?
