Yes, I am alive
Mar. 10th, 2008 02:37 pmBut apparently I didn't feel like posting all this weekend.
So, I'm planning to take my upcoming Easter break and head to Berlin and again to England to visit Emma, though working the dates on those should be interesting. I've not planned anything firmly, but if I plan on traveling by train, I can pick and choose closer destinations more easily.
Classes are fine. Today and tomorrow we've got a Wellesley admin-type coming down to talk to us about the program and life in Austria- I never heard back from her if she wants to come to class with me or not, since I seem to be the only one with a class during the time she's free to visit us.
I did my first homework for Middle High German, and it was a rather Wellesleyish feeling- like doing Latin, really. This guy is hard on grammatical comprehension, and I am annoyed to discover that everyone here is required to pass a test on Latin if they want to study German- it gives them a better grasp of the grammar than I have with my meager year of Latin, but at least I will not drag too far behind them. But I am clearly not the only other foreigner in the class, and I'm getting good comprehension of the stuff he's talking about, so I think I should be okay. He seems in general to one of those annoyed professors that don't actually like having to teach the basic stuff, but just want to sit around and read Middle High German poetry. Yeah, good luck with that.
My roomie and her boyfriend seem to be on good terms again, but God only knows when next I will be hearing from her that men are shit, the constant refrain she utters when they on the outs.
Easter is coming up, and while the pre-Lent festivities in Vienna were highly private and rather dull, I think I might stick around Vienna for Easter to see how things work out here in terms of public merriment. While visiting Emma in London, we'd like to go do some Irish traveling, so that is something to consider in terms of timing. Colleen had only good things to say of her brief time in Ireland, and it would be fun to wander around with Emma, I think.
Anyhoo, I've got some life to go get done, so I think I'll get about that while the sun is still up.
