This weekend was remarkably blase, but in a good way.

Okay, Friday I slept in and then went shopping with Sarah, a Wellesley Grad and current Vienna inhabitant, who introduced me to another open air market that I had not seen before. It was in a more Turkish part of Vienna, so it was cheaper and lots quieter than Naschmarkt, so I will possibly return. The issue because one of, when am I ever cooking to any sort of recipe these days? I really usually just throw things to a skillet and see how they end up tasting. It works pretty well to keep me fed with a minimum of stress.

Sarah also found a remedy of the "Starbucks is expensive, but I like hanging out there" problem- their coffee of the day. It's just a cup of really good strong coffee, and it costs a little more than half the price of the next cheapest thing on the menu. I think I've found my drink of choice.

Saturday was long and boring, but I did start the day off with a long chat with my friend Emma. She called to talk about what we wanted to do while in London- we're looking at musicals and theater. I have a deep and abiding lust to see the Royal Shakespeare Company while in London, so I think that will end up being something I do. But there is also quite a bit that we can do there, and honestly, just about anything I do with Emma is fun- we end up being the Emma and Beanie show, bringing snark and silliness to all manner of daily activities.

For most of the day, I just lounged around, tried to do some reading, and ended up watching my roomie's DVD's of Sex and the City. (One of the nice things about living here is that though the DVD's usually have a dubbed track that you can choose to play, they almost always have the original dialog for the shows as well. It means you can either be sociable and watch the show dubbed with buddies, or you can do the whole "pining for the Fjords" thing on your own time.

Sunday was nice, but a little time consuming. I either did not set my alarm, or I slept through it, but I ended up getting to Alexandra's house two hours later than the arraigned cooking start time. Which was actually okay, because the whole act of cooking took less time than Sarah thought it would, because she usually has to cook on her own. With such useful littler helpers as myself, it becomes nice and easy. The food was excellent and enjoyable, the company was nice (it tended to segregate between the younguns and the professors, so that we had a lot of fun at our end of the table and they got to sound smart talking to themselves. ) I invited Johanna, and she seemed to have a good time (though there was a brief time there where we all got pinned down by the inquisitive questioning of Christiane, probing for god knows what).

That basically lasted the whole day, and I now have a shelf full of tasty, tasty foods that I did not have to cook myself (though I did help!), and I will probably not have to cook that much.
