Woot!

I went to the bank today, and made a fool for myself to the girl at the cashier looking for a piece of paper that looked official enough to be my bank statement for my residence permit, only to discover there exists a machine that does this exactly without a need for a human being to be involved. So, I have my paper, and I have everything that I need to wave at the immigration officials next Tuesday before grabbing my Visa and mooning them.
Anyhoo, I have done a number of things today, and that were all interesting and wonderful, and life is good and quite cool. I had three classes today, and unlike my day of four classes at Wellesley (with roughly the same number of hours in class), this is broken up enough, and not dependent on my ability to discuss and respond to the professor personally, that I can deal with it.

Also, it's with Colleen, so it's fun. We each tend to have picked up slightly different vocabulary, so when something's not clear, we write each other notes about the words (today, the topic in our "Women and Gender studies in National Socialism" was "Opfer oder Täterin?" In this case, kind of important to know that "Opfer" is "victim" and "Täterin" is "agent, doer", or the whole thing is just a waste of time.) We also went book hunting today, and found the copies of the book compiled for that same class.

After our Thursday schedule of class-lunch-class, we went back to Neudeggergasse and vegetated for a few hours, then I had to run back to the university to get there in time for my last class. Today was great for that, because the professor provided a "Reader", which appears to just be an outline of the lecture that you have to pay E1 for- my history professor sends this stuff out online for free, but this was so incredibly useful that I'm willing to let it go. I go the good news, that since she had to cancel the class last time, we're not meeting till November 8th. And then we'll be hearing about a book that I've already read, which will hopefully give me enough time to actually read the new huge book I have to read- Der Zauberberg, by Thomas Mann.

So, it's been a pretty good day, and the only bad part was the free "Universität Wien" messenger bag that I got this morning has developed a rip where the zipper was improperly seemed on. This is obnoxious, because this was a pretty nice little bag for a freebie, and it has the interesting aspect of proclaiming that I studied in Vienna. Here, it's a clear sign that I'm with the Erasmus program, because we all got one of them for free, but at home it would be damn cool. Now, I will have to hunt down a nicer bag that I will actually pay for. Sigh. Colleen bought a huge purse at H&M, which I considered, but I would like something with a longer strap to throw across my chest, and more compartments than the H&M bags have. I really am looking for a briefcase- there are plenty to be slobbered over here. I will try and hunt one down this weekend at Naschmarkt.
