The quality of my life has just risen by the judicious waving around of money.

So, according to instruction from on high, I sucked it up and bought myself a good teapot and some decent (actually, ridiculously expensive) loose leaf tea. The Teapot is... I don't know how to describe it. It's one of the few things in this room that is decidedly mine, and it looks it. It looks like this, but white and painted with a tiny bamboo grove in shades of blue glaze. I was Obviously Foreign while attempting to purchase it from one of several tiny Asian markets in Naschmarkt- I had to ask the cashier if it was possible to purchase it alone, or if it came only with a set of cups- and the cashier guys asked me where I was from. It's like "She's white, and she does not look obviously non-Austrian, but she sounds like a complete idiot. Must be foreign." But I got my teapot, and am seriously considering arrangements to get this baby home with me- I love it that much. And, honestly, it would be nice to have some cute little reminder of my time in Austria that was not emblazoned with MOZART IS GOD all over it.

Then I bought Lovely Tea from a stall that was conveniently right across from the Asian market, and again was Obviously Foreign at a Turkish girl running the counter. But I got my lovely tea- Ceylon is a wonderful tasty thing. Yay!

Then I came back home, because I was quite literally out of money, went and got some money, bought some paper and a pen (and I think I might have gotten the student discount on that, because, copying the three people ahead of me, I presented my student ID at the counter. However, the price was really about the same as what I was thinking it would be, so what gives?), and discovered that there is a very large Billa right across from the Technische Universität.

And this is a good thing, because closest Billa to me is tiny. And while I love Naschmarkt for tasty veggies and that kind of thing, I am not yet willing to trust them about the meat. It's all stored in cases, and it looks exactly like any butcher's counter I've ever seen, but I'm also still wary of the prices and unwilling to make a fool of myself trying to buy expensive lamb since it's often the only thing I can recognize by name in the case. (Lamb= Lamm. Very simple) So, I got in line with the thirty or so student each buying a chocolate bar of a single bier, and schlepped home my kill of chicken, tortellini, and beer. (Minor testing has determined that Gösser really is kind of the best tasting beer to be readily had at groceries stores around here. It's got a cute tagline - "Gut, Besser, Gösser"- good, better, Gösser, which actually translates pretty pithily into English)

Anyhoo, it's only three or so, and Naschmarkt is still open, and I would like to buy some veggies. I'm feeling like it might be a good idea of make some kind of soup today with my chicken broth and veggies, so that I can just munch on it during the week. I bought sausages for this purpose, but I have no idea what they taste like and if they would be soup- worthy.
