Today was a highly enjoyable waste of time, in which I identified a few things I brought with me that are going to make me very happy for my duration in Vienna. One of them is certainly my external hard drive, chock full of Batman cartoons and comic books. It makes me a happy girl.

This weekend has been kind of a low point for the German- I honestly did not speak really much at all, aside from an hour or two last night with Ana and Colleen and Ana's assigned buddy. Oh, well. Life goes on.

I'd neglected to wash out my nose piercing with saline solution for the past few days, partially out of laziness, partially out of hatred for the cheap hard Q-tips I brought with me, and partially out of a devilish desire to see what would happen. (The guys giving me the post-piercing care lecture were so conservative in their healing time estimates as to be absurd- three months for a nose piercing seems to be at the far edge of everyone else's estimate, but it was the *least* amount of time for them.) Anyhoo, my lack of diligence was rewarded today with a lovely pus-filled sore at the base of the piercing. After being drained and treated, everything is looking fine again, but I'm going to go back to religiously cleaning the piercing to keep it that way.

Also, Batman cartoons are wonderful and awesome. Not the new ones, those are actually rather disappointing, but one that ran from 1992 through '95. Rewatching some of the episodes, I see so much more beautiful craftiness and creativity on the part of the creators and actors- I was completely blind to anything but the story as a kid. Upon reflection, however, this is a really great version of Batman to be introduced to- classic and beautiful and dark without being bitter and hopeless. It really shaped how I think about Batman, and especially the Joker and Harley Quinn. Much as I like Heath Leger, he's never going to be able to measure up to what I think of Mark Hamill's Joker.

Combine folktales with catchy tune, and you have my love.

LI'L RED RIDING HOOD (Ronald Blackwell)

Owoooooooo!
Who's that I see walkin' in these woods?
Why, it's Little Red Riding Hood.
Hey there Little Red Riding Hood,
You sure are looking good.
You're everything a big bad wolf could want.
Listen to me.

Little Red Riding Hood
I don't think little big girls should
Go walking in these spooky old woods alone.
Owoooooooo!

What big eyes you have,
The kind of eyes that drive wolves mad.
So just to see that you don't get chased
I think I ought to walk with you for a ways.

What full lips you have.
They're sure to lure someone bad.
So until you get to grandma's place
I think you ought to walk with me and be safe.

I'm gonna keep my sheep suit on
Until I'm sure that you've been shown
That I can be trusted walking with you alone.
Owoooooooo!

Little Red Riding Hood
I'd like to hold you if I could
But you might think I'm a big bad wolf so I won't.
Owoooooooo!

What a big heart I have-the better to love you with.
Little Red Riding Hood
Even bad wolves can be good.
I'll try to be satisfied just to walk close by your side.
Maybe you'll see things my way before we get to grandma's place.

Little Red Riding Hood
You sure are looking good
You're everything that a big bad wolf could want.
Owoooooooo! I mean baaaaaa! Baaa?
