Well, I think one way to see if you'd like Bujold's older series is to read some of the books that are set in the same universe but not involving the main characters - Ethan of Athos (1986) and Falling Free (1988) both feel like very classic sci fi novels in the sense of "let's take a concept and let it play out over a long period of time, thru the eyes of a protagonist who's pulled in from outside the situation." I saw over on your book round-up that you enjoyed Cat Sebastien's Hither, Page, series, and I think that Penric and Ethan of Athos sit in a similar level of mystery/exploration of a complicated situation as The Missing Page.
I have to say, I really wish I had a better memory for books. This is the first year that I have recorded what I read in any organized way and, man, it's nice to be able to just check the list over!
