I actually do think it is mostly coincidence - both people had been there for several years and mentioned that they were solicited by outside recruiters. It's not an uncommon thing for folks in my field to have to trade jobs around to advance, and while there's some bullshit up the chain of command from us, our direct boss and skip level boss are both pretty great and respect the work that we're doing.
