Signup Post: Accountability Buddies in 2026

Now is the time folks are making their New Year's resolutions or other goals for 2026. People vary in how they like to pursue their goals and what helps them keep on track. Some want others to provide accountability. Others just want moral support and the company of friends doing similar things. Some like having a place to track their progress online, share it with friends, and watch what others are doing. This post provides a place where you can seek any of these. It's okay if you need a certain amount of pressure for success.

Don't want accountability at all, just opportunities? That's okay too; you can just skip this post and look for other resources that suit your needs, like the one about alternatives.

Read on for some ideas...

Good News

Good news includes all the things which make us happy or otherwise feel good. It can be personal or public. We never know when something wonderful will happen, and when it does, most people want to share it with someone. It's disappointing when nobody is there to appreciate it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our joys and pat each other on the back.

What good news have you had recently? Are you anticipating any more? Have you found a cute picture or a video that makes you smile? Is there anything your online friends could do to make your life a little happier?

Progress on a long-stalled project & med testing

I have managed to unfuck a story I haven't progressed on in months by chopping off a chapter, changing my view on what the pairing situation was, and digging back in.

\o/ 30K on that one so far! Let's see what happens next.

*

In other news, Journavx, a new med, appears to do a pretty good job on my migraine pain. Now if I can figure out how to get more than 15 of the buggers, we'll be in business. It's only prescribed for acute pain, and mine is chronic, so prior authorization isn't a thing my insurance company is going for.

Given that, I am going to go back to the old standby painkiller for the evening. Another dance with Mary Jane.

Beginning New Years

My alarm went off as usual at 10:00, but I drowsed in bed til 12:00 because it was so comfy! Then I got up and started getting ready.

I had breakfast and coffee, and then showered and dressed, and then I packed for two days, including my laptop. Then I headed out to [personal profile] mashfanficchick's. I am staying here tonight because it is the first anniversary of zer mother's death, and ze doesn't want to be alone.

So I took the 20 bus. It was very crowded on the bus but I did get a seat, which is good because I had my backpack, which was heavy, and my laptop bag, and my purse and I did not want to stand. Then I got the 45 from Main and Union Tpk. I got a seat on the 45 too.

Met [personal profile] mashfanficchick at CVS, we walked to zer place and I set up the computer. Ze picked up some things and went back to work. I puttered on the computer until 4:00 when I went to the Japanese restaurant where we had decided to eat, and waited for zer.

We had sushi of course, big surprise there. It was delicious as always. Then we took a Lyft to Michaels and did some shopping. I got a picture frame for the picture of me and Middle Brother that I had printed out.

We went to Staples and to Trader Joes, and then we took a Lyft back. it was after 7:00 then , so I got ready for my meeting (the reason why I specifically brought the laptop.) At 8:00 I signed in, but no one showed up. I thought that might happen, so I wasn't really surprised. So I waited til 8:10, then got off and Teamed the FWiB while [personal profile] mashfanficchick took a nap.

We talked for about an hour, then got off. After that, [personal profile] mashfanficchick got up and we had a snackish dinner of cheese and crackers.

And that's about all the day. Soon I will finish here and get ready for bed.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. The weather was chilly but clear.

3. Sushi.

4. Got a frame for the picture.

5. My meetings, even when no one shows, I tried.

6. Having known [personal profile] mashfanficchick's mother.

It's the last fannish 50 of the year

Normally around now I'd be doing my year in review of all the stories I wrote but I don't think I'm going to do that this year. Almost no one here is in my current fandoms and I ran a lot of the stories here so those who were going to read them probably have already. I haven't seen anyone else doing any end of the year stuff yet either so I'm sure I'll be doing something.

Instead I thought I'd throw it open to everyone what's your most current fandom that's eating your brain. Talk about. Tell us why. I don't care if it's one you've been faithful to for 30 years or one you found this weekend, let's hear about it.

Here's mine. The Amazing Digital Circus What? You expected it to be Hazbin Hotel right? Well that's true but I've talked about it a lot. While I am not as actively writing TADC (nor do I plan to) I love this weird animation. I will say much like other shows I love (Prodigal Son, Hazbin) that it took until episode 3 for me to really get into it. That's the same here and that's why I'm putting that episode here. It's still my favorite.

TADC is interesting because you have such personalities in it, Kinger whose mind is so damaged he can't function except in the dark where things are quieter, Ragatha of the toxic positivity and people pleasing. Zooble with body dysmorphia, Gangle with depression, Jax with some kind of trauma that has made him an asshole and into this comes Pomni, the latest person sucked into the game that is the circus, who turns into the group therapist after a fashion. Running the game is Caine, the AI that is having his own psychotic episode.

It's 3-D animation which I generally do not like but the story telling is very interesting once it hits its stride. It's also free over here on Youtube (I know, I know)

I did get my meds in theory. It was the doctor who missed the request in the system. She fixed it within the hour. But there was a lot of snow today. Probably more tomorrow but I'll have to go to CVS regardless as tomorrow my insurance ends.

I did a lot of work on my classes. Still so much more to do. Ugh, I always do this, put it off to the last minute.

(no subject)

2025 retrospective: I think there's a strong argument to be made that this has been the worst year of my life, but it's not going to keep the title, so actually making it seems too much like giving too much of an invitation to that Simpsons meme. (This one. Like I'm already in the that Simpsons meme zone but I don't have to set the table for it.) So I'm going to ignore the year and just try to finish random book posts before it actually ends.

I read these ones over the last year, several of them literally last winter, so this post is a mix of sentences I barely remember typing and sentences I typed while barely remembering the books. I should probably also mention that I have no actual knowledge of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

King Leopold's Ghost, Adam Hochschild

A library book sale had this a while back, and I'd been meaning to read it for a while. It's a sort of meandering narrative approach to the PR rise and PR fall of Leopold's atrocities in the Congo: the book follows the figures warring over public opinion around the Congo more than the rubber terror itself, which is bad enough seen around the edges. the rest under a cut )

The Lumumba Plot: The Secret History of the CIA and a Cold War Assassination )

No Enchanted Palace: the End of Empire and the Ideological Origins of the United Nations )

Nancy Drew Games

Her Interactive (and other places) have their seasonal sale going on (although annoyingly it's only 35% off this year instead of 50% off like before), so I picked up some older games I didn't have anymore (I used to get these from the library all the time) and some newer ones I hadn't played yet.

I'm currently poking at Warnings at Waverly Academy and trying to remember if I liked The Haunted Carousel and The Secret of the Old Clock enough to buy them.

More hilarity with Heated Rivalry audio porn

As you may know, soon after filming Heated Rivalry, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie made an audio erotica recording for the company quinn (available on mobiles as an app). It's an originally written audio porn paid subscriber app with largely male performers, mostly M/F stories (and most of those second person listener-insert), but with a few M/M and F/F offerings.

The Hudcon story is Ember and Ice, clearly intended as HR AU romantasy fanfic, where Finn (Hudson), and Dane (Connor) are rival fae princes, alternately fucking or at war with each other. Their HR personalities are maintained as Hudson is the dutiful, serious prince who only fucks Connor, and Connor is the promiscuous bisexual prince with daddy issues. It is, of course, a love story, just with a lot of explicit sex. The story's laughable overall, but no more poorly-written than a lot of fanfic, even if the worldbuilding leaves a lot to be desired. But that's not why we're here: we're here for Hudson and Connor delivering breathy porn dialogue with absolutely no fade to black. Overall, they both do the sex noises very well but I think Hudson is just a tad more uninhibited and realistic, especially nearing orgasm. Which fits with his persona from the press tour.

Hilariously, Ember and Ice has been so successful in the full frenzy of HR fandom that the quinn app crashed for a while yesterday with too many panting fans trying to sign on and sign in. Thus we now have wonderful tumblr posts like this.

Hudson and Connor also did a photoshoot for Ember & Ice, with tasteful dollar-shop gilt and silver wings to demonstrate their fae origins.

Two young men in jeans and singlets sitting entwined on an obviously fake mossy knoll with a small tree behind. Each has a small set of fake filigree wings on his back.

They must be having a ball! I love that they're undoubtedly giggling about all this and revelling in the nonsense, but their demeanour in the photoshoot and their voice acting in Ember & Ice is quality work, 100% professional (especially the sex noises).

And naturally, there's already a story in the Ember and Ice fandom on AO3, the fandom tag so new it hasn't been categorised yet. I predict many more!

ETA: more evidence! "I hope they get a really satiating love story", ha!

:: A consultation brings Graham home in an exhausted, dispirited mood. Elisabeth helps. Prompted by [personal profile] callibr8, with my thanks! ::

Graham patted Reticence on the arm as they appeared on the teleport pad in the garage. Rain hammered the roof a story above them, muted but determined. Graham signed fluently, despite the tiredness that made his movements slower. “Hungry? There’s a snack station out here now and we’ve disabled the beeping noise in favor of a simple colored LED. Red means it needs attention, green means that the timer just went off. That’s a mini freezer next to the mini fridge. The former has meals and ice cream, including some vegan flavors that came out very tasty. Help yourself,” he finished, then paused to scrub at his face with both hands. “All I want is my bed and a kiss goodnight from my wife, and I am too tired to care which order they happen in..”

Reticence lifted an eyebrow and signed, “I’ll take some ice cream to go, thanks.”

things that I have signed up for, so I don't forget!

I have signed up for some things starting in 2026!

1. [community profile] getyourwordsout

I signed up for the lowest habit goal. I'm still not sure I will write all that much, but I'd like to, at the very least, finish my WIPs, and having SPREADSHEETS! will likely help with that. I've joined the discord and requested access to the group, so now we just wait to start.

2. The Story Graph's January Pages Challenge

I've long complained of a lack of reading. I'd like to read more, both to expand my horizons and just for fun. The Pages challenge sounds perfect for me: the goal is just one page a day. I think I can manage that!

3. [community profile] snowflake_challenge

No signups necessary, but I'll likely be doing this again.
