Backed up my tumblr; what up to

Welp, backed up my Tumblr using this tutorial - It worked fine, and it's nice to have the whole things saved in one place. I doubt I'm slated for deletion, but honestly, how would I even know given how awful Tumblr's admins are at communicating? 

Watching: Person of Interest, restarting from season one because I do not have a clear idea of when I stopped watching. I'm really enjoying it but I'm also surprised at just how expensive it seems - I usually like tv shows that are pretty low budget, so for a show that averages a fair number of car crashes per season, it's kind of surprising that I like it as much as I do. I'm experiencing a slight sympathetic neck cramp watching Harold's posture. Taraji Henson is a fucking amazing gift - just solid a Carter from the start. 

Knitting: Fidget Socks ! (Free pattern) This is a good pattern for variegated or hand dyed yarns if you like socks. Pics of mine on Ravelry with the link. I have done with before with the Fish Lips Kiss heel and it's a good fit. 

Reading: The Revolutionary by astolat - just in case you needed a Transformers fic to break your brain with about the nature of society, and compromises, and the things that we ignore for the sake of our own comfort, and the choices we make to live with ourselves, and what we do when we are no longer the people who made those choices anymore. Oh, for fuck's sake, go read it, it's Astolat, you know she's good for it.

That's an interesting sock stitch pattern. How does it wear? I'd be worried about snagginess because, honestly, I am an absolute champ at snaggery.

Glad to hear your backup worked. It's on my (bulging, endless) todo list. Which I ought to get done today if I'm going to delete tomorrow. Which I am because whether or not I'm flagged or shadow-banned or whatever, censorship and nazis are not the style of site I participate with, end stop.

It wears pretty well! The stitches with the yarn passed in front are pretty flush with the surface of the sock bc of the ribbing, so it doesn't seem super vulnerable. But I have only made this pattern once before and I have been a little ginger with them because it was souvenir yarn that I really like. Overall, it feels safe as long as you keep a slightly tight gauge.

I actually found the back-up relatively smooth and quick - took maybe half an hour to download all my posts once I got it set up. The instructions were pretty good and straightforward.

Oh, Person of Interest. Good gods I love that show for so many reasons. Even it's one moment of UGH WHY when [spoilers redacted] can't take away my love for this show.

Oh, it's so good! Based on episode notes, I got at least halfway season 5, so no worries, I am pretty upset about HORRIBLE SPOILER IN SEASON 3. But I think the show pivoted reasonably well.

So, it's not the thing that happens so much that bugs me (though I wish it didn't happen) it's one specific part of the aftermath, I think, was poorly handled in a way the show rarely screwed up.

(Also, slightly off topic, but in my head the Machine is a teenage girl. You've definitely gotten to Grace, right? In my head, the Machine is like "Dad. Look at her, she looks nice.. DAD. NO I'M NOT MALFUNCTIONING. GO ASK HER OUT I NEED A MOM.")

I did get to Grace! (it's hard to tell what I missed v what I forgot - I was not that into the show the first time around, fic helped!) She's a delight and also the Machine is sometimes a completely omniscient 12 year old.

So, I thought that for the most part the writers handled the death of the only regular female character in the cast as well as they could with all the other main characters being dudes. I feel like Fusco's speech about how she made him better and Elias' about how he respected her even if she didn't like him were handled really well and were about HER and how she affected them rather than about their man-pain.

...

And then there was John.

Is it weird that I honestly find John the least interesting part of the series for most episodes? He's there, he's fine, he's the POV character a lot, but so much of the actual moral struggle of the series belongs to Harold and later Root and Shaw. Maybe it's just that the first season is about how Harold and Reese establish trust, but for now I'm like, snooooze, get to the godlike powers already.

Not weird at all. There is no moral struggle with him--he's already had that and long since decided he's a horrible person and suffering is his lot. And even though Harold gives him a purpose, it doesn't change that about him.

I like the Machine as a character more than John.

I will share them as I get there! It's not a major fandom for me, tho I've seen people write amazing stuff for it, so I'm not super invested in the first season but I know there is more to come.

Bolli is a lifesaver. I was able to backup all of my blogs, but I've still been posting in them, so I'll likely do one more final backup on the 16th. All but my main account are reblog blogs, and I know there's some wonderful NSFW content that's going to be disappearing from them on the 17th, so... one last backup before the Tumblr-tanic sinks to the bottom of the North Atlantic and we all start singing My Art Will Go On. XD

I've been thinking that I should rewatch the first season of POI (it's the only one I have on DVD at the moment) because it was so good from start to finish. (Though there were bits that made me sad, naturally.)

It's a good series! I am sort of oozing thru season one until some nonwhite non dude main characters show up (Taraji, you gem), but I am enjoying the experience and it's a damn good and mutible show
