Progress on a long-stalled project & med testing

I have managed to unfuck a story I haven't progressed on in months by chopping off a chapter, changing my view on what the pairing situation was, and digging back in.

\o/ 30K on that one so far! Let's see what happens next.

In other news, Journavx, a new med, appears to do a pretty good job on my migraine pain. Now if I can figure out how to get more than 15 of the buggers, we'll be in business. It's only prescribed for acute pain, and mine is chronic, so prior authorization isn't a thing my insurance company is going for.

Given that, I am going to go back to the old standby painkiller for the evening. Another dance with Mary Jane.

Beginning New Years

My alarm went off as usual at 10:00, but I drowsed in bed til 12:00 because it was so comfy! Then I got up and started getting ready.

I had breakfast and coffee, and then showered and dressed, and then I packed for two days, including my laptop. Then I headed out to

mashfanficchick's. I am staying here tonight because it is the first anniversary of zer mother's death, and ze doesn't want to be alone.

So I took the 20 bus. It was very crowded on the bus but I did get a seat, which is good because I had my backpack, which was heavy, and my laptop bag, and my purse and I did not want to stand. Then I got the 45 from Main and Union Tpk. I got a seat on the 45 too.

Met

mashfanficchick at CVS, we walked to zer place and I set up the computer. Ze picked up some things and went back to work. I puttered on the computer until 4:00 when I went to the Japanese restaurant where we had decided to eat, and waited for zer.

We had sushi of course, big surprise there. It was delicious as always. Then we took a Lyft to Michaels and did some shopping. I got a picture frame for the picture of me and Middle Brother that I had printed out.

We went to Staples and to Trader Joes, and then we took a Lyft back. it was after 7:00 then , so I got ready for my meeting (the reason why I specifically brought the laptop.) At 8:00 I signed in, but no one showed up. I thought that might happen, so I wasn't really surprised. So I waited til 8:10, then got off and Teamed the FWiB while

mashfanficchick took a nap.

We talked for about an hour, then got off. After that,

mashfanficchick got up and we had a snackish dinner of cheese and crackers.

And that's about all the day. Soon I will finish here and get ready for bed.

Why This Must Be Read: This lovely story by Anagrrl revolves around a sentient Atlantis that is trying to figure out what it takes to bring people together and, ultimately, increase its population. It’s endearing, heartwarming, and utterly delightful to read about all the different plans for getting under people’s skin and into their heads—or rather, their hearts. And it’s surprising, or perhaps not surprising at all, that Rodney, normally considered insensitive to subtleties, is the one who senses that Atlantis is seeking contact and wants to take care of it :)

Her Interactive (and other places) have their seasonal sale going on (although annoyingly it's only 35% off this year instead of 50% off like before), so I picked up some older games I didn't have anymore (I used to get these from the library all the time) and some newer ones I hadn't played yet.

More hilarity with Heated Rivalry audio porn

As you may know, soon after filming Heated Rivalry, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie made an audio erotica recording for the company quinn (available on mobiles as an app). It's an originally written audio porn paid subscriber app with largely male performers, mostly M/F stories (and most of those second person listener-insert), but with a few M/M and F/F offerings.

The Hudcon story is Ember and Ice, clearly intended as HR AU romantasy fanfic, where Finn (Hudson), and Dane (Connor) are rival fae princes, alternately fucking or at war with each other. Their HR personalities are maintained as Hudson is the dutiful, serious prince who only fucks Connor, and Connor is the promiscuous bisexual prince with daddy issues. It is, of course, a love story, just with a lot of explicit sex. The story's laughable overall, but no more poorly-written than a lot of fanfic, even if the worldbuilding leaves a lot to be desired. But that's not why we're here: we're here for Hudson and Connor delivering breathy porn dialogue with absolutely no fade to black. Overall, they both do the sex noises very well but I think Hudson is just a tad more uninhibited and realistic, especially nearing orgasm. Which fits with his persona from the press tour.

Hilariously, Ember and Ice has been so successful in the full frenzy of HR fandom that the quinn app crashed for a while yesterday with too many panting fans trying to sign on and sign in. Thus we now have wonderful tumblr posts like this.

Hudson and Connor also did a photoshoot for Ember & Ice, with tasteful dollar-shop gilt and silver wings to demonstrate their fae origins.

They must be having a ball! I love that they're undoubtedly giggling about all this and revelling in the nonsense, but their demeanour in the photoshoot and their voice acting in Ember & Ice is quality work, 100% professional (especially the sex noises).

And naturally, there's already a story in the Ember and Ice fandom on AO3, the fandom tag so new it hasn't been categorised yet. I predict many more!

ETA: more evidence! "I hope they get a really satiating love story", ha!

Daily Happiness

1. Just one more work day this week!

2. Today was mostly dry with a brief bit of rain late morning, but starting tomorrow we're supposed to have several wet days, possibly a whole week. I'm hoping it will be lighter than last week and mostly overnight. We'll see!

3. We had curry ramen for dinner tonight and it was so good. Carla discovered this one brand last year that has a bunch of different flavors, all of which she likes, but I've only tried the curry and now it's all I'm interested in having lol.

4. I finished this cute winter cats puzzle today.

I'm going to challenge myself with a 1000 piece one next, so we'll see how that goes.

5. Jasper really loves this lumpy basket in the bathroom lately. We got it several months ago to put the hair dryer in and no one cared about it at first, but then after washing the bathmat, I put it on top of the basket and suddenly everyone wanted to be in there (well, mainly Ollie and Jasper). Lately Jasper has been sleeping in there most nights, too.

The past few years you would’ve found me mostly on Twitter, and when that basically went tits up I was one of many who migrated over to Bluesky. Where I still am today, posting away about my current hobby obsessions (still knitting, even if I’ve lost my mojo for a couple of months, and most recently tea). And the state of me.

TL;DR: I have surgery in three weeks and at least $350 in expenses for which I do not have the money. I need to have this surgery. And I could use some help to get everything covered.

Graham patted Reticence on the arm as they appeared on the teleport pad in the garage. Rain hammered the roof a story above them, muted but determined. Graham signed fluently, despite the tiredness that made his movements slower. “Hungry? There’s a snack station out here now and we’ve disabled the beeping noise in favor of a simple colored LED. Red means it needs attention, green means that the timer just went off. That’s a mini freezer next to the mini fridge. The former has meals and ice cream, including some vegan flavors that came out very tasty. Help yourself,” he finished, then paused to scrub at his face with both hands. “All I want is my bed and a kiss goodnight from my wife, and I am too tired to care which order they happen in..”

Reticence lifted an eyebrow and signed, “I’ll take some ice cream to go, thanks.”

The VLD girls have introduced me to Arcane and I have a new favorite:

Jinx from Arcane

Could not STAND Jinx the first few episodes, but after the time skip, she piqued my interest. By the end of S1, I was rooting for her to blow shit up. You do you, babygirl. I will now be thinking about her talking to a ghost until we watch S2.

If that doesn't happen in S2, I will probably jot something down. Might use her as a launch point for more unhinged OCs. There's plenty of room in TYL's world. Have an idea for something ofic focused next year so maybe I'll design it around this.

December 30, 2025...

Aggravating day. A day I'd describe as a lot of little aggravating drips, culminating in leaving my headphones on my desk at work (I realized it when they weren't with me on the train and it was alas too late to go back and retrieve them - if it had been my cell phone, yes - I'd have had no choice but to do so, but I don't really need the head phones at home - I only use them at work and on the commute. Unfortunately they need to be charged, which means I won't be able to use them immediately on Monday.) I also can't find my air buds. But I could find the plug-in earphones. So not all is lost, I suppose?

Less said about the rest of the day, the better. It was just a series of minor aggravations. We shall speak of it no more.

I already whined about the day to my poor mother, who decided to distract me by regaling me with news about my niece's trip to Montauk to see her grandfather...who apparently lives in a chicken coop on his ex-partner's property. The ex-partner (a novelist, writer, and former lecturer/teacher) lives with their adopted 31 year old daughter in the house.

I think the reason I enjoy Buffy S6 so much - is I find it relatable? It is about an unemployed/depressed young woman jumping from one bad job to another, juggling bills, a sister, social life or lack thereof, and a boyfriend who lives in crypt and cheats at kitten poker. It's hyper-realism in a supernatural setting. The villains are nerdy guys from high school, who bullied girls. (Any woman who has ever entered a comic book store, a fan convention, attempted to play D&D during the 1980s or been in a co-ed fandom online - can relate.)

Firefly, Road

Carrie and I did a nice ride this morning. Firefly was very eager to get out and was a good girl. I was riding bareback as I really don't think the saddle fits her, and I don't want her to think all saddles are painful. Since I'm very out of shape (and so is she) I got off and walked for about 1/3 of the trip. She is very wary of any footing that might be muddy. Water is no problem, but mud she is not fond of. After our ride Carrie held her while I did some back tracings to send off to the saddle shop. I'm planning to buy a saddle from a company that specializes in fitting horses. It won't be cheap, but if it fits both Firefly and me it will be worth it.
This afternoon was my second day of grading the road. It is always amazing how much gravel and dirt move around during a year. I did a little work on the road day before yesterday, trying to fill in pot holes and get a tiny bit of slope on about 200 feet of heavily traveled road that is otherwise quite flat. During the year car tires move gravel out of the most commonly used tire tracks and push them to the side. Then it rains and the materials on the side hold the water on the road. Instant pothole. If there is a slope down to the outside, the water has a chance to run off. I got a lot of pot holes filled, but several of them were a bit, um, squishy. That is because there were leaves on the road and they do not make good pothole filler material. So today, after lots and lots of cars had driven over that section and compacted things, I graded again and hopefully got enough gravel in them to stabilize everything.
This year, with all the early grass growth, a lot of the ditches were blocked by grass and clover. Because we have had some torrential downpours that has led to erosion. Grass is also not a very good road surfacing material so some time was spent separating the grass from the gravel. Scraping out the ditches also recovers gravel that has washed off the road. Tricky business right now though, it is so wet that keeping the blade from digging all the way down to the clay layer is hard.
