Supernatural Thoughts- Spoilers for 513 and 514

Here there be spoilers for The Song Remains the Same

What I really liked about "The Song Remains the Same" was it seemed like it was the first time they treated Sam's demon-blood addiction as anything but "OOOH, Sam is of eeevil!"- He was going through a really rough time and he was weak and he did something lamentably stupid- it's not good but it's comprehensible.

Here there be spoilers for My Bloody Valentine and my thoughts on the implausibly violent introductory sex scene.

As for "My Bloody Valentine," I had some serious, serious issues with the choices made for the introductory couple. Here's the context: this series has been criticized (rightly) for linking sexual depictions of women to violence attacks on them in such a way that it seems pretty clear that they are using pretty women as disposable victims. There is a lovely fanvid by luminosity and sisabet that I think demonstrates a lot of this tendency in the first season of SPN-- http://www.politicalremixvideo.com/2009/04/08/womens-work/

So when the writers started out "My Bloody Valentine" by showing a pretty girl being ripped apart during sex and enjoying every minute of it? Biting and chewing and literally eating her partner as a symptom of their supernaturally-enhanced desire?

Honestly, I was really appalled by that. It seemed like a blatant sensationalist ploy, and it was really, really disgusting. Especially when you compare the other actions of people affected by Famine- while there were people who were suddenly inflamed with lust, they did not start eating each other, they just started having sex with wild abandon. The show chose to pair incredibly grotesque with sex for the shock value, and honestly? I did not want to watch the rest of the episode for that reason. Now, I stuck with it, and I thought the Cupid was quite adorable, but I am freaked out that they chose to do that.
